Native American - Organizations

- "In 1953 farsighted tribal leaders in the Northwest formed the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians, and dedicated it to tribal sovereignty and self-determination. Today, ATNI is a nonprofit organization representing 43 Northwest tribal governments from Oregon, Idaho, Washington, southeast Alaska, Northern California and Western Montana. ATNI is an organization  whose foundation is composed of the people it is meant to serve -- the Indian peoples. Representatives from the member tribes set the policy and direction through committees by way of resolutions during the three yearly meetings."--site
- The Alliance of Tribal Tourism Advocates is an association of Tribes, Indian and non-Indian individuals, agencies and organizations that are concerned about responsible tourism development on the Reservations and in off-reservation Indian communities. Organized in 1993 by tribal governments in the South Dakota region, the consortium works to enhance and promote tourism as a means of economic development and growth, while maintaining respect for tribal traditions and lands.

- AILA is an affiliate of the American Library Association (ALA). We plan to gradually add information about what we do as well as highlights from our Newsletter and links to other Native and minority library organizations.

- "Our mission is to provide government leaders, policy makers and the public with accurate information about: 1. the legal and political history of American Indian nations. 2. the contemporary situation for American Indians. By providing knowledge and education, we hope to foster  better-informed and culturally-sensitive responses to the challenges of American Indian life.--site.
- "We are a non-federally funded  intercultural partnership committed to assisting in the return of sacred ceremonial material to the appropriate American Indian Nation, clan, or family, and to educating the public about the importance of repatriation."--site.

– “The vision of White Bison is to bring 100 Indian Communities into sobriety and wellness by the year 2010. In order to accomplish this the Wellbriety Movement was conceived over 10 years ago. The Wellbriety Movement is an effort to bring the message of sobriety and physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness to Native communities. This message also encourages people to recover their ancient traditions, teachings and ceremonies. With this message, White Bison also provides programs and resources to develop treatment, prevention, recovery and intervention strategies that will lead to both sobriety and wellness.”-Site.
