Native American - Health & Medicine 

 

 - "Healthy Nations is an initiative funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to help Native Americans reduce the harm caused by substance abuse in their communities. The National Program Office of the Healthy Nations Initiative, which provides day-to-day administration, is located in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Colorado Health Science Center . The goal of the initiative is to demonstrate that tribes and communities can, over time, achieve substantial reductions in the demand for -- and consequently the use of -- alcohol and other harmful substances, including tobacco and illegal drugs."--site.
 - "The Indian Health Service (I H S) is an agency within the U S Dept. of Health  and Human Services and is responsible for providing federal health services to  American Indians  and Alaska Natives."--site.
  - "The National Indian Health Board (NIHB) represents Tribal Governments that operate their own health care delivery systems through contracting and compacting, as well as those that receive health care directly from the Indian Health Service.  The National Indian Health Board is a non-profit organization that conducts research, policy analysis, program assessment and development, national and regional meeting planning, project management,and training and technical assistance programs. These services are provided to Tribes, Area Health Boards, Tribal organizations, Federal agencies, and private foundations."--site
  - "NNAAPC's mission is to stop the spread of HIV and related diseases among American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawai'ians and to improve the quality of life for members of our communities infected and affected by HIV/AIDS."--site
- "The National Resource Center on Native American Aging serves the elderly Native American population of the United States. The center is committed to increasing awareness of  issues affecting American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Native  Hawaiian elders and to be a voice and advocate for their  concerns."--site.
- The Native American Diabetes Project's goal is to help people eat healthy foods and increase exercise. This is done by working together with Native American communities. Ideas from the communities are used to make a program that is specifically designed for Rio Grande Pueblo people.
 - "The Online Version of an Exhibit Held at the National Library of Medicine 15 April -- 31 August 1994 Lobby, Building 38 National Institutes of Health".--site
 -  "The Native Elder Health Care Resource Center (NEHCRC), initially funded by the Administration on Aging for a four-year period beginning February 1, 1994, is a national resource center for older American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians, with special emphasis on culturally competent health care. The NEHCRC is located in the Department of Psychiatry. There are four cross-cutting themes to the Center's efforts: ascertaining health status and conditions, improving practice standards, increasing access to care, and mobilizing community resources."--site.
