Lamb Chop's
Play-Along |
- "Knock Knock...Who's there...FREDDIE
O...Freddie O. who...(sing) who's a Freddie O. Big, Bad Wolf, etc." Who indeed
but a little lamb chop? Shari Lewis' Lamb Chop, actually, whose PBS series,
Lamb Chop's Play Along, has spawned this site of activities and yes, knock
knock jokes for preschoolers. Among the highlights is a page of drawings of
the hand puppet and its cohorts Charlie Horse, Hush Puppy and Buster the Bus,
for printing out and coloring. As Lewis explains in her welcome page, "In
creating these activities, our intention is to form a partnership with
teachers, parents and caregivers in order to support their efforts. We hope
this resource will enable you to help your children respond to and build upon
what they have seen as they watch LAMB CHOP'S PLAY ALONG."--site. |

ReadyWeb |
- "Making sure your
child is ready for school goes beyond first day outfits and cool lunch boxes:
it's about educational readiness. And ReadyWeb, sponsored by the U.S. Dept. of
Education's ERIC Clearinghouse on Elementary and Early Childhood Education, is
loaded with resources for parents and educators of new-to-schoolers. The site
features links to Dept. of Ed publications for parents, including "Helping
Your Child Get Ready for School," and, on the flip side, "Getting Schools
Ready for Children." The site also offers access to the ERIC Bibliographies on
School Readiness, with annotated overviews of journal articles, books and
other publications aimed at getting youngsters off to an educationally sound
start."--site |

Resources for Kindergarten Teachers |
- "A
snappy, Java created hedgehog mascots this review and index site that
spotlights the latest early childhood education (K-1) resources, both online
and off. The selection is small, though supposedly updated frequently, and
Internet sites are arranged according to how much "beef" (meaningful content)
they feature. Hedgehog also reviews educational CD-ROMs and software, such as
the "Dr. Seuss ABC CD-ROM," which is praised, though the reviewer notes that
"Purists who believe only the short vowel sounds should be introduced will be
distressed by the introduction of 'automobile' on the A page, for example."
Those hunting for hedgehog info won't be disappointed either: a bonus page
offers links to sites (yes, The British Hedgehog Preservation Society is
really online!) about those frolicsome woodland creatures."--site. |
